Anything is possible

Did you know that 40 years ago, in 1969, Neil Armstrong was the first American to walk on the moon? Yes, and it was an event that marked the beginning for a lot of us...including opening our eyes to what we can accomplish in this world. It's no different than what we witnessed on January 20, 2009 or the leaps and bounds we've seen in technology and opportunities in our lifetime.

What this indicates to me is that each of us has the power to do anything we want to do in this life....

In the winter of 1974, my family fled in the early morning hours. The Vietnam War was still raging on and as my sisters and I were thrown in the back of a military jeep, while the tears and cries of our friends and neighbors echoed around us, I didn't know it then but I was about to embark on a long journey. In a blink of an eye, the flight to California where we were destined to board, we opted out of. We wound up taking a flight to another smaller state, all because our family wanted to stay together to take the flight to the new world as a family. The Fates were kind to us that day--for if we had taken the initial flight--we would have been another casualty destined to never see another morning. The nightmares faded in time but deep in my subconscious I knew that in this new life, I was meant for so much more...Every day I'm thankful that I was given these opportunities, to breathe another breath. No matter how high I've climbed on the ladder of life, I never take anything for granted. There were times when I had forgotten. Forgotten these memories but a child never forgets. A child remembers the stench of death, the anxiety of the unknown, the fear of being separated from family...those things I'll carry with me and every now and then I am reminded of my beginnings...

There are people I've met along the way that have asked me why I work so hard, why I am so hard on myself, why I dream so big...because when you're given chances in life, you have to seize them. You have to fight for everything you want. That's what I'm doing now, I'm fighting for a better future that will allow me to help others and do great things. These things I strive for are reminders of what I should never forget. Publishing has always been a dream of mine and my love for the written word began the day I held a piece of paper and pencil in first grade at the age of four. There are so many writers out there who want to accomplish what they set out to do, but there are only a handful who fight for what they want and succeed. I'm sure luck and timing has a lot to play but the bottom line is that it takes talent, perseverance, and lots of hard work. To me...when you can taste these dreams right within your reach, you're only halfway there.

So this post is to everyone who is writing, who is making an effort to realize your dreams while you have a family to feed, a full-time job to go to, a health issue to overcome in order to accomplish these dreams--CONGRATULATIONS!

After all, if a man can walk on the moon...ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. Believe in yourself.

Jax, you have the best intuition about what your blog readers need to know!

I've been struggling the past few weeks juggling work and life (work mostly) and thinking "Is this dream of being a writer probable, or even possible?"

But you're right, if man can walk on the moon- anything is possible!

Thanks, Jax!

You and your family are a great testament to the fact that we can achieve anything we set out to do if we persevere and believe.

Unless we work our hardest to succeed, our dreams will always be just dreams.

Thanks for kick in the pants this morning and keep reaching for the stars.

Thank you Jax, I needed some inspiration and the pep talk! I'm struggling at my new job and trying to stay focused on what I really want to do in life...write! :) All the other stuff can get in the way too much if we let it. I think it's all about remembering to stay focused and appreciateing the good things when they come along!
