RWA, here I come!

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
As I pack and get ready for my flight to Atlanta, I begin to panic that I will forget something. This year, I'm going more casual than usual and I'm hoping I'll be able to kick back and enjoy myself. I've got an agent and editor appointment and many wonderful friends to meet up with. I know the week will fly by, but I can't believe I've counted down since January for this day...wow, how fast time flies. I'll try to report in but chances are I'm going to be too cheap to pay for internet access. From what I hear, it's going to be outrageous unless I find a coffeehouse with free wi-fi there... So, for those of you who will miss out on the wonderful conference...I hope you enjoy yourselves and behave until I return.

Have a good week!

What Women Do

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
I swear women put themselves through so much, and all in the name of beauty!

Conference is just around the corner, I've got a celebrity awards show to go to on Sunday, etc...and it got me thinking about personal grooming. I'm thinking that while I'm in Atlanta I'd lounge out at the pool when it hit me that I wouldn't want to be seen in public without having had a good wax. Funny thing, Romance Divas recently had a whole topic in Chit-Chat about waxing vs. shaving. It's quite interesting really..so I booked a trip to Pink Cheeks, an ultra fabulous salon famous for waxing the likes of Pam Anderson. You gotta love L.A. and it's support of beauty!

This bit of info below came from an April 2003 Los Angeles Magazine article by Tamar Brott about my waxing salon. Supposedly, this is the first salon in L.A. to invent invent the "The Playboy"!

...Cindee Esser-Thorin, whose motto is "Where there's hair, we're there," never advertised the Playboy nor was it her idea in the first place. But she enjoys telling the story of its creation, which, as in all satisfying creation stories, can be pinpointed to one particular moment.

That is the moment Pamela Anderson came in and said, "Cindee?" and Cindee said, "What?" and Pamela said, "Can you wax my lips?"

Back then Anderson was still the "Tool Time Girl" on Home Improvement and Pink Cheeks was primarily a facial salon, whose name was meant to signify youth and good health, that only did the occasional bikini wax.

Esser-Thorin was understandably horrified. "I said, `Your lips? On your hoochie?'" she recalls as if it were yesterday. "And Pamela goes, `Uh-huh!' and I go, `Oh, Pamela, no way! That's going to hurt, sweetie.' And she goes, `Please, I'm so tired of shaving.' And I said, `No,' and she goes, `Please!'

So I waxed her there, and it was beautiful! This nice little V in front with her lips clean. And then she goes, `Cindee?' And I go, `What?' And she goes, `Will you wax my butt?' I said, `Your butt? Your winker?' And she said, `Yeah,' and I said, `Oh my God, whatever!'

So I flipped her over on her hands and knees and slapped her little winker with wax, and--yank, yank--she was clean as a whistle. And it was like, `Oh my gosh, girlie, you're on to something.'

Secret Society Girl by Diana Peterfreund is OUT TODAY!

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
Secret Society Girl takes us into the heart of the Ivy League’s ultra-exclusive secret societies when a young woman is invited to join as one of their first female members.Elite Eli University junior Amy Haskel never expected to be tapped into Rose & Grave, the country’s most powerful–and notorious–secret society. She isn’t rich, politically connected, or…well, male.

So when Amy receives the distinctive black-lined invitation with the Rose & Grave seal, she’s blown away. Could they really mean her?

Whisked off into an initiation rite that’s a blend of Harry Potter and Alfred Hitchcock, Amy awakens the next day to a new reality and a whole new set of “friends”–from the gorgeous son of a conservative governor to an Afrocentric lesbian activist whose society name is Thorndike. And that’s when Amy starts to discover the truth about getting what you wish for. Because Rose & Grave is quickly taking her away from her familiar world of classes and keggers, fueling a feud, and undermining a very promising friendship with benefits. And that’s before Amy finds out that her first duty as a member of Rose & Grave is to take on a conspiracy of money and power that could, quite possibly, ruin her whole life.

A smart, sexy introduction to the life and times of a young woman in way over her head, Secret Society Girl is a charming and witty debut from a writer who knows her turf–and isn’t afraid to tell all....

Some Free Time?

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
I think I have free time, but I really don't because I'm busy job hunting. I will have to say I went to a fabulous interview last night and I can't begin to tell you how awesome the job is if I score it. It's not only a cool, hip and trendy place, it's going to have a professional skateboard ramp in the back of the building for the celebrity athletes. I won't disclose the company, but it's HOT. I'm nervous about the second interview as it'll be video conferenced so I can meet the person who's my potential employer. If I get this gig I'll be staying in Austria for two weeks to train...talk about hard work... LOL

Anyway, this morning I renewed my passport and let me tell you, it costs an arm and a leg to get it expedited. My photo turned out like crap, but I just wanted to get it in time...just in case.

Today my my hubby (henceforth will be called Screenwriter) asked me to clean the livingroom...as if! Of course, what do you think I'm doing? Sigh, it's hard work staying home! Now, I need a latte...

Superman Returns

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:

I can't emphasize enough how much I love Brandon Routh as Superman. Sure, I had my reservations...but after seeing him, I am totally rooting for him and his talents. I hope that this movie continues to make box office sales because it's that good! I've seen it twice and both times I was blown away by the special effects and Brandon's resemblance to Christopher Reeve. I think he'd be proud. There were some scenes where Brandon had that same look, or the way he spoke was as if they were one and the same. The cast was brilliant and Kevin Spacey, I just love that guy. The little kid who plays Lois Lane's son was sooooo cute, I wanted to pince his little cheeks.. for a moment there I could have sworn he was another Culkin clan...

Next on my list is Pirates of the Carribbean. I'll be watching it next Friday and I hope it's even better than the first. Granted, I was more stoked about Superman than I was with Pirates. Maybe I'm the oddball.

On another note...my kitchen is so spotless that you'd think I'd just moved into the building..now, if I could only finish the rest of the house. Each Saturday I'm doing another segment of my apartment. Next week we tackle the livingroom! Ahhhhhh...lucky me.

TGIF

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
Seriously. Although, I don't enjoy the prospect of housecleaning. I've neglected my chores for so long that I have boxes and piles of papers, books, magazines... it's something out of an Oprah segment on OCD. haha. Well, not quite so disgusting, but I live with junk. My plan is to spend all day Saturday in 'maid service' hell. I'm thinking when I get into that groove I'll start cleaning EVERYTHING. Maybe it's built within me to turn on robot mode.

Well, it's been an interesting week to say the least. I am the unluckiest person when it comes to getting a real corporate job. Whether I'm laid off due to a merger or finding myself working for the biggest neurotic, it never fails. Right company, wrong bosses. Right bosses, wrong company... I honestly want job security, but these days I wonder if it's worth it when you have to put up with people who don't respect you, who spend more time acting like adolescents than being professional, and who enjoys blaming anyone they feel threatened about. It's true..I get it all the time. I was starting to believe I found the perfect job, as fate would have it, I found a real loser..again.

Lucky lucky me. :)
