Recovering from the Romantic Times Convention

Author: Jax Cassidy // Category:
I got home after midnight last night and didn't get to bed until late. The event was the most amazing experience! I became the technical advisor (aka A/V Specialist) for all the luncheons and had to work the stage lighting and Mr. Romance contest. It was a lot of work but so much fun to engage in a new activity. On top of being a personal assistant to Bill Freda (aka Andrei Claude the Mr. Romance winner in 2005) who organizes the pageant, it was a blast! (Coincidentally, he did a phenomenal job!) The most fun I would have to say was the costume parties. I didn't get to do as much mingling with running around but next year I will have to come as an author and not a staff member! If you've never been to the convention, you should! I'm too tired to post pics or get in depth, but lets just say it was an experience you won't forget!

More to come in a future blog....

Tame the beast

I totally know what the Hulk feels like. As I count down my days until I can slam the door in my boss' face, I'm going to be doing a lot of repenting every night. How many Hail Mary's do I have to say? I'm Buddhist for goodness sakes! Maybe I should be reciting the eight-fold path...ahem...

I'm so excited about RT Booklovers Convention. It's a matter of time before I get there and will have to tell you all about my adventures!

In the meantime, don't forget to catch me on the workshop panel:

New Obsession...or profession?

I am all fired up. Today I'm doing a major photo shoot at my home. I've been slowly building my portfolio for the launch of my new services in addition to graphics & web design. I've always had a love of photography and over the last few years I've wanted to make the hobby more accessible for folks who can't afford paying top $$$ for headshots, etc. After much thought, I bought a professional camera and gear. I'm saving up for the lighting equipment, etc. so I can start doing portraits. Of course, it's going to take me a while to pay off the stuff I just bought, but at least I'm having a blast starting up. In the next few weeks I hope to have my website going.

Well, let's see how many people I'm going to cram into my little one bedroom loft. It's going to be quite an adventure today. Not only am I going to be a stylist and make up artist, I'll be the photographer too. Lucky for me, I have a sidekick. Lisa is going to be the official stylist and will be doing most of the makeup work as well. We make a great team! I'm dying to see what comes out of all this!

Now, gotta finish with writing and then get ready to go to my chapter meeting. Yawn.. I'm extremely tired.

Busy month

I've got a trip for RT convention, then I'm back work for a week and then I'm going to be quitting and then I'll be flying to Orlando to visit my father and then I'll take a few days off before starting my new job. Now, that leads me to trying to get out of jury duty. Sigh...I hope everything works out.

Happy Friday!

WORD OF THE DAY

promulgate: (verb) To make known (a decree, for example) by public declaration; announce officially.
Synonyms: exclaim, proclaim
Usage: Where is the staircase from which Charles VI promulgated his edict of pardon?

I get a half day but it's doctors appointment and lab results. Fun, fun, fun! Then I have to do lots of stuff to get my deadline out the door by Sunday. The most fun will be cleaning on Saturday morning with hubs! Isn't that nice of him to plan that?! At least I have my local chapter meeting for Sunday. I love going to those things and meeting with my fellow writers. They're all so sweet!

Okay, what are you all up to this weekend? Do tell....

Yes...I've only got a few weeks left at my job but I can't seem to focus. I keep daydreaming about tropical islands..yada yada yada. Sigh... Okay, I am going to buy more accessories for my camera. I plan on taking a zillion photos on my trip to RT and I hope to be able to have nice portfolio pics for my new website. I do deserve this new toy and can't wait to put it all in action!

I'm watching AI and to be honest, it's starting to bore me. Maybe I'm losing interest in television all together. Yawn, I think I'm going to try to get some shut eye. I'm running on barely any sleep.

Hopefully I'll have more interesting things to post about in a few days. :)

New career, new toys, new deadlines...

I landed this fabulous job and what do I do? I run out and buy a nice new toy! Yes, I finally picked up a professional camera for my hobby. I figure it's a great stress reliever and a great way to make some extra $$$ on the side. I've always loved photography since I was a wee lass and this was a great way for me to finally indulge. Of course, it's going to take me forever to pay it off but the end result is that I'll have lots of opportunities to improve! It's Easter Sunday and I should be out having a nice dinner with friends and family, but no family here. Just friends who are already preoccupied with their own lives. I guess I'll spend Easter with my new best friend Mr. Nikon! Okay, okay...I'm going to be downing pots after pots of coffee and trying to get my deadline done. Yep, it's true. I have lagged. I guess I should be writing instead of posting so I will take this as a cue to gooooooooooo....

Dreams do come true!

Where do I begin? Never would I have believed I would walk into an interview and discover it possessed everything I've wanted in a career. It's an exciting feeling to know that each day I'll be working in the coolest, most creative, and incredibly innovative company! Yes, I left with a job offer on my first interview after just quitting on Tuesday! Can you believe it?! I know I've told a handful of my friends but it's really like walking onto the set of "Devil Wears Prada" without the catty people and the mean-ass boss. Nila (what a great name) is not only elegant and posh...she's also down-to-earth and appreciates employees who wants to advance. So, on top of being fashionable in my position, I'm getting benefits that ROCK and a pay increase to boot! Who could ask for anything more! This is the happiest day of my life in a long time. :)

A new start, a new adventure

I quit my job yesterday. I had enough and I'm not one to tolerate a horrible boss, but I gave it a shot because I don't want to make job hopping a lifetime commitment. Anyways, I've got two incredible interviews coming up. One tomorrow at 9:00AM and the other sometime next week. Both are equally wonderful companies and I'm nervous. I hate going to job interviews, in fact, I hate job hunting but thankfully the universe has brought these to me very quickly. Thank you Heavens! Okay, now is the part where I wish I hadn't turned in a 30 days so I could actually have a few days off. I guess that's what the Romantic Times Convention is for. Again, it won't be a vacation since I'll be working my butt off there. :) It's all good. I'll be doing a workshop for web design with a panel which is going to be great! I'll give more details soon. I'm soooo hungry. I just ordered Thai food..YUM!

Okay, happy eating. I'll go watch American Idol now....

In the midst

Much of my life revolves around work. I can't escape the BS that goes on and I can't seem to avoid being in the midst of a major crossfire between the battle of the spouses. How do I find myself in this predicament? Frankly, who the hell knows. Today is Monday and I hope to turn the other cheek. Right.

How was my weekend? I spent most of it drinking, writing, and putting together my web presentation for RT. I'm suppose to have emailed out the documents but have a bit of tweaking tonight before it can go out. I'm just a day late, hopefully it's not too bad. There's so much to do before the conference and it seems like there's never enough time. I sound like a parrot as I've caught myself mimicking those words time and time again.

Got to go find a flask to put in my desk drawer so I can make it through the day. LOL
